Website redesign competition started It's been a few years since we put our last web site in place and it's time to look at alternatives again. Our current web site has served us extremely well, but is starting to look dated and somewhat 'low resolution' compared to other sites on the net. There are no specific 'rules', but some guidelines are appropriate: - I would like to keep the current top logo on aardmud.org as our main banner, but the 'Aardwolf Mud' part needs changing to be more clear. - We need to make better use of screen 'real estate'. The current page is very 'narrow', limiting what you can put on there. - You don't need to CODE anything, only design, but keep in mind placeholders and layouts for the following: * We will have online forums interfacing (if possible) with the mud note system. * We will have announcements posted in more of a blog format where people can leave comments and discuss. * We will have continent maps up there that are interactive, you'll be able to click on continent area symbols and see what the area is. * Live updating stats with things like rankings, etc. - Although this is not mandatory, right now I'm leaning towards preferring tabs underneath our main banner for navigation, with drop down sub menus rather than our links down the side. - No flash, no music, only minor animation if any. - If you want to host submissions yourselves, that is fine, but if you zip them up and send them to me I will put them on the Aardwolf website with a 'comments' link so that you can get feedback from other players and imms. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Now for the disclaimers: - Unlike last time where we just made you submit something at the end, you are welcome to post examples of (not discussion of) concepts for imms to comment on. If you do this, you understand that the feedback COULD be 'dont like it, sorry', and, the imms may not agree. - There is no guarantee we will use ANY of the submissions, but there will definitely be a winner. Our website is important to us and the prize will reflect that. Place like Sitepoint.com etc allow you to post "competitions" where professional web designers submit site redesigns and the winner gets anything from 200-500 dollars. The winner here will receive an equivalent donation of that amount and a unique item that cannot be gotten elsewhere. There will be other prizes awarded based on quality of submissions and effort. - Please don't copy other muds work. However, it only makes sense for you to scan what other muds are doing for creative ideas. Deadline is one month from this posting, but feel free to submit things for feedback and/or discussion sooner. I'll review anything you send and try to help you win :) Thanks, Lasher.Date Posted - 05.06.2006 |
